Alberto Gobbi works in Milan, Italy, where he carries out clinical, scientific and educational activities at a national and international level. He is the Founder and President of the OASI Bioresearch Foundation Gobbi N.P.O. a non-profit research organization recognized by the Ministry of Health of the Italian Government.
The OASI Bioresearch Gobbi Onlus Foundation offers scholarships and supports scientific studies in regenerative medicine, bio-orthopedics, prevention of degenerative diseases and injuries, through a network of researchers from all over the world.
The Foundation represents an opportunity for growth and updating for young doctors, biologists and researchers in the medical field.
Born in Milan on 10/14/1956, after completing high school he graduated from the State University of Milan in Medicine and Surgery with a vote of 110/110 with honours with a thesis titled: “Traumatology in motorcycling sports with particular reference to motocross”.
Having obtained his professional qualification and registration with the Milan Medical Association in April 1983 (n° 23447). He became a member of the CONI Olympic committee and a F.M.S.I. registered sports doctor in 1984.
He carried out his post-graduate internship at the Orthopedic Trauma Center (C.T.O.) in Milan with Prof. Pietrogrande in the Orthopedic Clinic, where he began his activity as a specialist in orthopedics.
He undertook military service from 1984 to 1985 serving in the Carabinieri (Military Police) division of the 3rd Lombardy Battalion.
In 1986, still specializing, he won a scholarship from the Italian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology and moved to California to study at the Los Angeles State University with Prof. Augusto Sarmiento and subsequently to Kerlan -Jobe in Inglewood then to the Southern California Orthopedic Institute (SCOI) with Prof. James Fox.
He completed the five-year specialization program in Orthopedics and Traumatology at the University of Milan in July 1988 with a final score of 70/70 with honours presenting a thesis titled: “The functional method in the treatment of leg fractures in sports traumatology. Biology of fracture healing”. He was nominated Azzurro d’Italia for “Sports Medical Merits” in 1988 and enrolled in the school of specialization in Sports Medicine at the University of Genoa, achieving his second specialty with honours and presenting a thesis titled: “Morpho-functional evaluations in a sample of athletes practicing motocross, enduro and rally”.
He was then appointed official doctor of the FMI and FIM (Italian Motorcycle and Powerboat Federation) following athletes in the various disciplines during international competitions, participating in several Paris Dakar races, Incas Rally, Pharaohs and others following the national team.
He has always dedicated himself to humanitarian activities by participating in missions in Africa and South America and was awarded in 1993 with an Honorary Associate Diploma by the Paraguayan Orthopedic Society. In 1995 he was appointed Italian orthopedic consultant for the American Consulate in Milan and continued his attendance at the Kerlan-Jobe Institute until 1997.
Member of International Cartilage Repair Society since 1998 , faculty member in Gothenburg 2000, after serving in different Committees including Education, he was nominated Member of the General Board of ICRS in Gent in 2004 and in 2009 was appointed as the Program Chair of the ICRS World Congress in Miami USA. In 2004 he also received the nomination as “Honorary Member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA)” and in 2007 received an Honorary appointment from the American Biographical Institute.
In 2011 he was nominated “Program Chair” for I.C.R.S. International Meeting in Beijing for 3 years and in 2011 he was appointed Visiting Professor at the University of Kobe in Japan where he presented his studies on cartilage regeneration and in 2012 Honorary Professor at the University of Tokyo.
In 2012 in Baltimore USA his publication on the use of PRP in orthopedics was awarded as “Best International Publication in an American Journal”.
Alberto Gobbi was invited in 2012 by the Ministry of Health of Kuwait to operate and teach at Al Razi hospital working as consultant in the orthopaedic department.
In 2013 became a member of the ACL Study Group and was elected Secretary General of ICRS.
From 2014 to 2018, at the invitation of the University of California, he worked in San Diego (UCSD) as a visiting Professor and participated in research activities, then received the O1A visa and was appointed Principal Investigator for Anika Therapeutics USA’s Fast Track study.
In 2018 he received the title of Visiting professor at the University of Seoul and then at the NUS in Singapore where on September he received the Pillay Diploma from the University of Singapore.
The same year in Macau China he became the first Italian elected President of the International Cartilage Repair Society.
In 2019 he received the title of professor from Peking University and again in 2019 was awarded with the Golden Chondrocyte Award at the Joint Preservation Congress in Poland.
In 2021 he was awarded as “Fellow ad eundem of the Royal College of Surgeons of England” and was nominated Consultant of the Executive Committee of ISAKOS ( International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Sports Medicine).
Currently Alberto Gobbi holds important positions in the most prestigious international scientific societies in the fields of orthopedics, arthroscopy, sports medicine and basic research.
Honorary Member of the North American Society of Arthroscopy (AANA) and International Member of AAOS (American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons), former President of the International Cartilage Regeneration and Joint Preservation Society, Chair of the Publication Committee for ISAKOS he is also member of the Board of Directors. He is also the director of a special Biologic Task Force focused on the use of Orthobiology and Regenerative Medicine with the aim of coordinating and organizing multi-center studies, new projects and research activities around the world through international meetings.
He worked as first author of several books and monographs as well as having published several hundred scientific articles in international journals with around 17,000 citations and I 10–index of 175.
