Professor of Histology and Embryology
Petek Korkusuz received her MD degree from Gazi University Faculty of Medicine in 1991. She completed her residiency in Histology and Embryology at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1997 with her thesis entitled ‘’Assessment of Cell Adhesion Molecules in Osteoarthritic Synovia by Using Immunohistochemistry and Electron Microscopy’’. She received her Ph.D. in 2000 from Gazi University Faculty of Medicine Department of Medical Pharmacology with her thesis on ‘’The Roles of Endothelium Derived Factors on Digoxin Induced Arrythmia in Isolated Perfused Guinaepig Heart Model’. Her professional appointments include Assistant Professor position in 1998, Associate Professor (award of tenure) in 2003 and full Professor in 2010 (present position) in Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine Department of Histology and Embryology. Her secondary apointments are in Department of Nanomedicine and Nanotechnology, Department of Bioengineering, Department of Stem Cell Sciences and, Department of Oral Biology. She received the Turkish Scientific and Research Council (TUBİTAK-BAYG) National Doctoral Scolarship between 1991 and 1993. She studied on cell culture techniques in 1993 in Bordeaux University INSERM Laboratory France, learned basic hybridoma technology and lymphocyte homing mechanisms in 1997 and 1998 in Osaka University Department of Bioregulation Japan, worked on phage display technology and electron microscopic screening of phages in 1999 in Erasmus University Immunology Department and Electron Microscopy Unit Netherland with a postdoctoral scholarship (NATO-B1 grant) and she was a visiting professor in Harvard and Yale Universities IPSC Centers in 2015. She has 2748 citations for 173 publications in Science Citation Index (WOS) with an h index of 27. She has 4790 citations in Google Scholar with an h index of 33 on September 2023. She owns 5 patents, several international and national book chapters and awards. Her research is focused on biomaterials and stem cells for soft/hard tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, musculoskeletal system regeneration mechanisms, cancer biology, male infertility within the somatic and germ stem cell microenvironment perspective. She is an active member of the Ortopaedic Research Society, International Stem Cell Research Society, European Society of Gene and Cell Therapy, European and Turkish Microscopy Societies, Turkish Pharmacology Society and, Turkish Histology and Embryology Society.
